Arne Jacobsen designed the Swan Chair in 1958 for the lobby and reception areas at the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. Arne Jacobsen distinguished the Swan Chair by his omission of any straight lines in its design-only curves. The Swan Chair provides further evidence of the movement in design to adapt more organic forms into our living spaces.
Over 50 years after this chair was introduced it is still widely used in high end contemporary residential, as well as corporate lounge furniture. It additionally has great appeal for hospitality. This is a high quality reproduction that has paid special attention to the curves and symmetry of the chair, as this is a highly complex piece. The shell of the swan is a molded synthetic material covered by a layer of cold foam. The base consists of a satin-polished, welded steel tube and a 4-star base in injection molded aluminium. Upholstery is done by hand. We offer contract grade fabric from Maharam to use on the Swan Chair. While Kvadrat Tinta is our standard and what's shown on our website, other Maraham fabrics are available for a slight upcharge (including Tonus, Hallingdal, Topas, Divina Melange, Flora, Happy, and Prince) -- please inquire. This coupled with an excellent price makes our Swan Chair an easy choice compared to far lower quality versions.
Arne Jacobsen is legendary as a Danish architect and designer. Such chairs as the Series 7 chair and the Egg Chair are still be used widely throughout the world for a variety of applications.
