Eero Saarinen was also known for the interior design of smaller buildings including one of Vassar Colleges dormitories, Noyes House which later took on the nickname of the "Jetson Lounge" where he designed these poufs for posh floor seating. In 1958 Saarinen was commissioned to design this dormitory which has a unique, crescent-shape with a parlor featuring a flamboyant sunken in circular sofa.
Saarinen placed some pre-existing pieces in Noyes House, including the Womb Chair, though he also designed some new pieces which not only accented the uniqueness of the space though also catered to the relaxed collegiate way of life. He modified his pedestal table to have glass top, though also created these upholstered Poufs which appear in various sizes. These Poufs created wonderful lounge seating for the student population taking into consideration comfort as well as mobility of the pieces. Also he choose to use a slip cover for upholstery, aiding in easy clean up. This is the first time these Poufs have been in mass production.
