Saarinen placed some pre-existing pieces in Noyes House, including the Womb Chair, though he also designed some new pieces which not only accented the uniqueness of the space though also catered to the relaxed collegiate way of life. One such modified piece was his pedestal table.
This Saarinen table normally consists of a lacquered cast aluminum base and a table top of laminate or marble, though Saarinen chose to construct the top of a beveled piece of glass. The reason for choosing a glass top as opposed to the opaque laminate or marble was to showcase the fluidity of the base, as well as to blend in with the streamlined look of the room. This is the first time the glass top Saarinen Pedestal table has been in mass production.
