Mies Van der Rohe was one of the founding fathers of Modernism and perhaps the purist of all Modern Architects. In accordance to his maxim "less is more", his work is characterized by constructional clarity, free flowing space and precise detailing, which is represented in the functional simplicity of his cantilever chairs to the luxurious comfort of the Barcelona. All of this combined, ranks him as one of the most important twentieth-century designers.
In 1927 Mies designed a small cocktail table for his WeiBenhof exhibit though this table is more commonly known for its inclusion in the Tugendhat House in 1930. The simple form of the bent tubular steel frame is the essence of Bauhaus style combined with the glass top, which enables one to see the construction as well as admire the flowing lines. This Mies Van der Rohe inspired dining table is obviously modeled from his famous design from the Tugendhat House (1930). Perfect for an intimate dining setting it showcases the elegance of Mies' streamlined cocktail table with the advantage of size enabling the table to be the focal point in any space.
