The Rene Herbst Cord Chair, also known as the Sandows Chair, is just one example of the pioneering use of industrial material that Rene Herbst was famed for. For this chair, Herbst used elastic cords (we know them now as "bungee cords") that at that time were used to wrap parcels. It was first released to the public at the Paris Salon d'Automne des Artistes Decorateurs in 1929. Rene Herbst founded the company Etablissements Rene Herbst in an effort to produce and sell his projects.
